About fellowexpat

What this is

Practical guides to Dutch personal finance, written specifically for expats — not generic personal-finance advice with "Netherlands" swapped in. Every guide starts from the question: how is this actually different for someone who moved here, in their first years, on a visa? Emergency-fund sizing tied to residence risk, the 30%-ruling's real mechanics, Box 3 wealth tax as it hits money still sitting in a home-country account — that angle, not the version that reads the same on any Dutch finance blog.

The focus is specifically financial independence — the point at which work becomes optional, not just "doing okay." Everything on the site is educational: the guides explain how the Dutch system works, the calculators show you your own numbers, and none of it is personalised financial, tax, or investment advice. fellowexpat is not a licensed adviser.

Who's behind it

fellowexpat is published by Fullstacker, a company registered in the Netherlands (KvK 85334162). It runs on newsletter signups only — no ads, no sponsored placements, no affiliate links. When a guide compares commercial platforms (see the broker guide), none of them pay for that placement, and if that ever changes it'll be disclosed directly on the page it affects — not buried in a footnote.

How the guides are written

Every claim is checked against a primary source — the Belastingdienst, the AFM, or the DNB — rather than repeating generic advice. Rules change; guides get revisited when they do, not left to go stale. Where something is genuinely uncertain (a rate, a threshold, an eligibility rule), the guide says so specifically instead of hedging everything equally.
